Freediving in India: what to know

What it is

Dive on a single breath, no tank. A quiet, technique-driven sport built on relaxation and breath work, with certified courses now available at the main dive hubs.

When to go

Follows the dive season: October to May, with the Andamans usable most of the year.

First time?

Do not try to train depth alone, ever. Entry-level courses (AIDA or Molchanovs level 1) take about two days and teach breathing, equalisation and buddy safety before any depth work.

Where to do it

  • Andaman Islands

deep clear water close to shore, ideal for line training

  • Netrani Island, Karnataka

reef freediving alongside the scuba boats

  • Goa

    pool and confined-water beginner courses
