Plan Male as a practical base

Male is one of the easiest Maldives bases for divers who want minimal transfer hassle. Velana International Airport is right there, which means you can be in a hotel and on a dive boat far faster than if you were heading to a remote resort island.

How many days to stay

Two or three days is usually enough. Male is best used for a short, efficient dive block, especially if you want to fit diving around an international arrival or departure.

What to ask before booking

Ask whether the operator is running easy reef dives, North Male classics, or the Maldives Victory wreck. Those are very different dive days. Also confirm departure point, equipment quality, and whether hotel or airport pickup is included.

Timing and cautions

Because the airport is so close, it is easy to forget the standard no-fly interval after diving. Do not compress the final day too tightly. Currents can also be stronger than expected on the better sites, so be honest about your experience level.

Useful setup

A simple plan is arrive, dive for one or two days, then keep the last day dry before flying. Use Coral Circuit to compare shops, add a course if needed, and log the trip in the dive logger.
